Prenatal massage is a safe and natural method to relieve the aches and pains of pregnancy. Massage not only helps to alleviate pain in the hips, pelvis, knees and ankles, but also relieves soreness in the muscles that support the additional weight of the baby, such as in the neck, back and hips. In addition to the techniques traditionally used in prenatal massage, I use specific acupressure points that can help ease pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy. While there are acupressure points and areas that should be avoided during pregnancy (I am trained and nationally certified in Asian Bodywork Therapy), there are many acupressure points that can give great relief to a pregnant mom.
Prenatal massage also helps the recipient with relaxation, which can be a great place to refer back to during labor. Being in touch with one's body and the awareness of any tension that is being held in the body can also be an invaluable tool to use during labor.
A woman is her baby's conduit to the outside world and taking care of yourself in this time is important. Prenatal massage is a fantastic way to nurture yourself and your growing baby.
